Acadia National Park: A Centennial Celebration is a walloping visual-literary collaboration honoring the 100th anniversary of Maine's most visited natural destination, the splendid island-ocean-mountain park owned by all of us, created by other-than-us. Tom Blagden's plates-sumptuous, sensitive, sensuous-scale up to brilliant panoramas, funnel down to intimate portraits of lichen, sundew, barnacles, glistening cobble miniatures. The essayists are longtime Acadia protectors and appreciators: David MacDonald, president, Friends of Acadia; Christopher Camuto, author, Time and Tide in Acadia; Christopher Crosman, former executive director, Farnsworth Museum; Dayton Duncan, author, the Ken Burns PBS national park series America's Best Idea; Sheridan Steele, retired Acadia superintendent; David Rockefeller Jr., past vice chair, National Park Foundation; MWPA member W. Kent Olson, retired president, Friends of Acadia. Picture and word soar in unified message: Get to Acadia, keep it whole for those you will not live to meet. A Maine keeper.
